The braille education project is one of the biggest and financially hefty projects the DWBI group has undertaken. DWBI group decided to hire a braille teacher in order to educate Prae and Fon for a year.
The funds for hiring a braille teacher came from fundraisers and donations by the NIST community.
The braille education project was funded by the DWBI team, for 3 years.
The stories of Prae and Phon are what inspired the Braille Education project.
The DWBI group had been visiting the Mercy Center Orphanage for some time before we discovered them.
Fon is another girl at the Mercy Centre living with HIV since birth. She is, however, partially blind. Fon received minimal health care and was neglected and discriminated against by her relatives. A minor eye infection resulted in partial loss of her eye sight. She was dropped off at the Mercy Centre at a very young age.
