1st December 2014
The World Aids Day Event was held on the 1st of December 2014. This is a one-day event, which has the purpose of raising awareness and also to raise funds for the children living with HIV at Baan Gerda in Lopburi. The Dreams We Believe In members gave out World Aids Day stickers at the school gate to students and staff walking into school. The stickers have the DWBI logo and the message “Fight HIV not People with HIV” on them. This helps to raise awareness about HIV with the message that people living with HIV are part of the society. Ribbons symbolizing the Aids symbol are also given out to people in exchange for a small donation.
The arts and craft items made by the kids during the Mercy Fun Day Event in November were sold during lunchtime to raise more funds for the children. For this year, we sold sack packs that were decorated and painted by the children. The funds raised during World Aids Day were used to take the children on a one-day trip to an amusement/water park in Bangkok in May.
Afterschool there is a screening of the Living with the Tiger documentary about the life of the children living at Baan Gerda. Apart from this, there are boards, posters and notices placed up to help raise awareness and educate the NIST community about people living with HIV. World Aids Day event is one of the most important awareness events for the people living with HIV/aids.
